Shogun 530 shortlisted for Australasian Truck of the Year

The new-generation FUSO Shogun 530 – Japan’s most powerful truck ever – has been named as one of five finalists for the 2026 Australasian Truck of the Year Award (ToYA), recognising a major step forward for FUSO’s flagship heavy-duty truck.

ToYA Jury Chair Tim Giles said this year’s finalists represented significant advances for their respective brands.

“All five are a serious move forward for their brand and all of them should make a significant improvement to safety, efficiency and productivity,” he said.

To be eligible for the award, trucks must feature considerable technological improvements updates – criteria reflected in the eighth-generation Shogun 530’s advances in power, efficiency, safety and driver comfort.

At the heart of the 530 is a new 13-litre engine producing 530 horsepower and 2,600Nm (1918lb/ft), with up to 4% better fuel economy than the outgoing 510 model. A 570 horsepower Jacobs engine brake provides increased braking power, while selected configurations offer up to a 1,000kg kerb-weight advantage over direct competitors for improved productivity.

The 530 also benefits from the most comprehensive safety package yet offered on Shogun, including Active Brake Assist 6, Active Sideguard Assist 2.0, Trailer Stability Assist and a Front Blind Spot Information System.

Strength across the Shogun range

The 530 leads a new-generation Shogun range built on FUSO’s long-standing reputation for dependability, innovation and value for money.

Developed and specified for the demands of New Zealand operators, the range includes tractor, tipper and freight options across 4x2, 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4 configurations, with GCM ratings from 36T to 70T and power outputs from 360ps to 530ps.

Across the range, improvements to safety technology, aerodynamics, drivetrain efficiency and driver comfort build on the proven capability that has established Shogun on New Zealand roads over more than five decades.

Shogun Hi Top tractor sales have increased 71% this year, demonstrating the growing popularity of new Shogun among line haul operators.
